For over 100 years, this sculpture has charmed many visitors to Savannah's Bonaventure Cemetery. It is quite striking to come upon this figure while walking through such a peaceful place. Bonaventure is located on the Intra-coastal Waterway, close to Thunderbolt, Georgia.  These images are B&W, toned, and edited presentations from my archives.  Click on the images to change to full-screen viewing or select Visit Gallery to order prints.

The inscription on the plaque next to Gracie reads:

"Little Gracie Watson was born in 1883, the only child of her parents. Her father was manager of the Pulaski Hotels, where the beautiful and charming little girl was a favorite with the guests. Two days before Easter, in April 1889, Gracie died of pnemonia at the age of six. In 1890, when the rising sculptor, John Walz, moved to Savannah, he carved from a photograph this life-sized, delicately detailed marble statue, which for almost a century has captured the interest of all passersby."
