How much does a wedding/family/vacation photographer cost? charge?

In general, the costs reflect the level of service that you are interested in as well as the types of print products or digital photo products you are interested in. Also, photographers provide many different options regarding prints and file downloads or files on disks. As you review photographers offerings I think that you will find that the offerings are similar and the prices are competitive. Current photo sessions costs may include any or all of the following:

an hourly rate, creative fee or 'sitting' fee

costs of prints or photo print products

costs for image files

travel costs (for location photo sessions)

assistant or other fees (for a large group, event or special need/request)

image license fees (when images will be used commercially)

discounts and special offers may also affect the price

Keeping your event photography costs down (affordable photography on a budget)

Keeping your photography costs down is usually fairly simple - do your own printing (please see the images options below - file download is a part of my standard offering.) For the budget minded this solution provides both less costly prints as well as opportunities to create your own favorite collection of prints.

Ask an event volunteer to capture some of the images (friend, family member, or other attendee who is comfortable taking such photos.) [Many photographers may object to this since it has potential to cut into their print sales - I don't focus on print sales; my focus is on providing the best service/solution to covering your event while capturing memorable images and then delivering images ready for printing (printed by me, by you or by a professional print lab.)

Print and Photo Image File Options Include:

Guests, friends & family members should be provided with the link & password for online print ordering.

There is an additional fee to download images. The download option includes a personal license for printing the images from your photo session or event. The images from your photo session or event will be available for download within an agreed upon time-frame. This license allows you to print as many copies of the images as you wish (but, the images may not be used commercially or distributed to others.) Images are sized for high quality 8x10+ printing (unless otherwise agreed.) These are files which have been color balanced with minor edits as needed. The images are typically not cropped so you have the freedom to edit as desired using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom or other image editing software.

a personal license for images sized for and intended for distribution via the web/phone/email (non-commercial, non-business uses.) These image files are smaller, with lower quality settings and with copyright watermark (to identify my work and to keep the files sizes down) that are suitable for electronic distribution (the images on this page are good examples.) You must request these images prior to your session - they will require some additional processing time and requesting them may delay delivery of final images.

electronic delivery of images from a secured web site - no waiting for a disk to be delivered! (you download the images to your computer and print on your printer OR copy the images to a disk, USB drive, etc. and take them to your local photo print vendor of choice)

an option for one custom edited image (you select the image and I tweak to your specifications, i.e. convert to black and white, sepia, duo-tone, etc. - $80 value.)

an option to order custom ink-jet prints by the photographer

an option to order electronic slideshows/videos

What is NOT included with the image download option:

Custom edited images, custom conversions, special requests - in short any request that requires me to edit individual images are NOT be included as part of your download set. I usually provide illustrative samples of what can be done (via editing) but the samples are offered as an additional purchase since they are enhanced/edited versions of the photos that you download. They are usually available via my on-line print ordering site. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Notes: Printing your photographs

The budget minded or creative minded client can both save money and create truly personalized prints using the file-download option. Please note that printing photographs from digital files can be quite challenging - you need a photo-print capable printer, special printer inks as well as photo-quality paper that is compatible with your printer. However, with newer ink-jet printers, inks and papers this is becoming simpler and more common. The simplest option is to copy the images to transportable media (CD, DVD, USB drive, compact flash or other portable storage card) and take the media to your local photography store or local photo-print vendor. In many camera stores you can insert your disk into an editing machine, crop the images to your taste and then order prints. In all cases I encourage you to use a print vendor with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

If you have some time as well as the inclination you can download fully enabled versions of photo editing software (usually with at least a 30 day trial period) to explore editing, tweaking, tinkering with the photos. If you decide to try this then I suggest that you consider Adobe Lightroom. There are many fine photographers in Savannah and the surrounding area so I encourage clients to visit web sites, review their services and to chat with several before making a decision.
